Runways With Surprises

Chanel Iman. Karlie Kloss. Agyness Deyn. Coco Rocha. Maryna Linchuk.
When you hear those names, you know they're models. You know that they walk the designer runways that happen every Fall and Spring.

How about these names?
Miranda Kerr. Gisele Bündchen. Adriana Lima. Heidi Klum. Alessandra Ambrosio.
They're the Victoria's Secret Angels of course. They walk the runway for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show that presents itself once a year.

Getting straight to the point, the Victoria's Secret Models have walked runways before. They are models just like Chanel, Coco, Maryna. Yet, they're a different "type" of model, I guess you could say. So it was a surprise, albeit a lovely one, that some of those Angels appeared on runways of Fall 2010 Fashion Week.

Alessandra Ambrosio walked the runway for Giles and Prada this year. In the past, she's walked for Oscar de la Renta (Fall 2001), Vivienne Tam (Fall 2001), Balmain (Spring 2000), and more.

This Fashion Week, Miranda Kerr walked runways for Balenciaga and Prada. Previous years, she's walked for Betsey Johnson (Fall 2007), Jason Wu (Fall & Spring 2007), L.A.M.B. (Spring 2007), and Threeasfour (Spring 2007).

So hello amazing models that bring curves to the Fashion Week Runway.

That really is Miranda Kerr. From the Balenciaga 2010 runway. No lie.

Fashion Week Begins With a Bang

Ports 1961, Richard Chai, BCBGMAXAZRIA, and more kick off Fashion Week Fall 2010 today. And although this is the start of an exciting week filled with amazing runways and beautiful models, it started off somberly.
British fashion designer, capable of bringing amazing designs to the runway, was found dead in his house this morning. Committing suicide, the designer is said to have been extremely upset of his mother's death, who had passed away days before.

His lower-priced line, McQ was supposed to show today, but due to his death it was immediately canceled.
McQueen brought unique-ness to his designs as well as the set. He never failed to bring awe, and even tears once, to the eyes of the audience.

Known for pushing up the bar, McQueen showed crazy prints, snakeskin, and heels that have never been seen anywhere else. His theatrical-like runway was simply amazing. No words can really describe how much of his passion for design and style were shown through his works.

As Fashion Week continues, it'll be evident that Alexander McQueen is no longer there, but his works will definitely live on to carry his name.

Happy New Year!

So it's kind of too late to say "happy new year" but this is the first post of the new year, so I thought I'd put it out there anyway.
Here's to a new year, a new decade.

First off, Fashion Week '10 is in less than a month (February 11-18) and the schedule is already up for New York. Can I just say that I'm already excited for this hectic week filled with wonderful designers, wonderful clothing, and wonderful models? Well, I am.
And an interesting fact I found out today...you've all seen the Burberry ads that feature Emma Watson. Well, also, in the new Spring 2010 Burberry ads, her brother Alex Watson makes an appearance. But that's not the crazy part, apparently he's set to walk the Burberry 2010 Runway next month in London. Helloo Hermione's real life brother on the Burberry Runway. I love it already.

That's all for now! I'll try to post more, especially once Fashion Week comes around.
:]

A Decade in Fashion

From 2000 to now, the world of fashion, as well as the world of...well, the world, has had its many ups and downs. From 9/11 to the first African American president elected to Fashion's Night Out...so much has happened in this decade that changed lives as well as outlooks. As this blog is mainly about fashion, I'll focus mostly on that, but add a sprinkle of other topics as well. So here we go:

Juicy Couture tracksuits came back, into style, you could say. All thanks to Madonna in 2001 who wore a Juicy tracksuit and in doing so, she threw the outfit into the open and everyone was soon a fan. If you search "juicy couture" on Wikipedia, you'll find that Madonna was "credited with turning the velour tracksuit into a trend." Try it for yourself.

In 2002, Halle Berry was the first African-American to win an Academy Award. Talk about achievement!

Leggings became huge and were soon seen everywhere. The celebrities all had them on and Lindsay Lohan even made a leggings line called 6126.
And I guess you could say that this whole pant-less, "let's wear leggings instead" led to the altogether pant-less trend. Seen from the Spring 2009 RTW runways (and even the Spring 2010 RTW) of Alexander Wang to Stella McCartney, pant-less outfits have moved from the designer runways to celebs like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, and more.

Plaid, skinny jeans, big sunglasses, huge bags, strappy sandals, knee high boots, over-the-knee boots, gladiator sandals, menswear, large belts, leather jackets, scarves (from spring to winter), bandage dresses, uggs, and even crocs came into style this decade. Along with countless other things, the '00s (the aught's, the naught's, the Oh's, The Decade From Hell (says Time Magazine)--whatever you wish to call it) have brought out possibly the weirdest (but also gorgeous) styles. Weirdest (maybe ugliest) being crocs, which I honestly don't understand. However, according to others they're pretty comfortable. Your decision. Bandage dresses (definite go) by mainly Herve Leger, although other designers have taken it up, are down right beautiful and are made to flatter any body type.

Top Ten grossing movies of the decade? All of them are action movies, besides Shrek 2 which came in at number two. Such a surprise; I guessed that Harry Potter would make the top 10, since Emma Watson was revealed as the Decade's highest paid actress. Spider-man and Spider-man 2 took 4th and 8th place, respectively.

Fashion's Night Out launched just this year. On September 10, 2009, Vogue partnered with Council of Fashion Designers of America to host this great event. With the recession going on, and less people shopping, they wanted to create a restoration of consumer confidence and promote retail. Events were held at many stores in New York and many more other places around the world. Stores such as Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Oscar de la Renta, Juicy Couture, and many more stayed open later than usual to take care of their many customers. It was such a successful night that there's even going to be a Fashion's Night Out 2010, once again on September 10.

Rompers and one-piece swimsuits came back into style this decade. I don't have much to say about this, since I don't really like these two styles. But hey, whatever goes. Some people can work them, that's for sure. Like Blake Lively for example:

*Take a guess at who was named the Artist of the Decade. If the name "Eminem" came to your mind first, you're most definitely correct. Named by the US magazine Billboard, Eminem's had 28 singles on the US Hot 100 since 1999. The reason I say this here is because his song "Crazy in Love" is quite wonderful, if I say so myself. But anyways. Beyonce was named female artist of the decade with 23 singles on the Hot 100 in the last 10 years. Thank you BBC News.
Another interesting fact? Mariah Carey's song, "We Belong Together," was the number one song of the 2000s.

Rihanna came into the celeb world with her music such as Pon de Replay. She also came in with her young style with sweats and cropped tops. But as time went on, she underwent a fashion makeover that has made her into one of the many trend setting women. From her signature haircut that became a fad, to her clothing choice that was anything but ordinary. It stood out, she took risks, and it was looked upon with awe.

forever beauty

If you don't already know, Forever 21 has launched a beauty line. It's called Love & Beauty. Well, I don't really have much to say about this new line because I have yet to try it. Although I'm not a big make-up wearer anyways.
But basically, based off of the website, they have Soy Candles. When I read that, I instantly went, "there's such thing as soy candles?!" Then I realized that I saw these exact candles in store the other day and they look like jelly candles. But I guess it actually IS made of soy. And it's on sale for $4.
Other products include lip gloss, bronzer, blush, lip stick, eyeshadow, mineral powder, candle sets, mascara, perfume, etc. All between the prices of $1 to $9.
Good price? Yeah. Good quality? Not too sure about that one.
But for the price, it's worth a try!
