ToW #12: Get Kissable Lips

I've been having a marathon of MTV's classic reality show featuring Lauren Conrad and oodles of Heidi (things were so different before that Speidi mess): The Hills.
While watching and reminiscing over Season 1, I've realized that Lauren always has fabulous lips which I'm jealous of. I mean, who wouldn't want perfectly moisturized lips?
Although Chapstick may seem to be a temporary solution for chapped lips, there's a better way to keep your lips hydrated and it can simply be found in your refrigerator: a cucumber!

LC suggests slicing up a cold cucumber and pressing it to your lips for a few minutes. The veggie has healing properties (think cold slicked cucumbers on your eyes for instant under-eye bag relief!) as it can relieve dryness and irritation.

But don't just rely on cucumber! Remember to drink water everyday to keep your pout and body hydrated, especially as summer rolls around.

ToW #9: Preserve Your Jeans

This week's tip has to do with  a clothing item that every one of us has. From two pairs to maybe 14, jeans are probably the most purchased item for each one of us and it's definitely important that we know how to care for our beloved pairs. So here's three quick tips for your jeans!

1. When trying and buying dark wash jeans, make sure you buy the size that fits tightest on you. Dark wash jeans are made with elastine (because it holds dark colors well) and they will stretch out after a wear or two. You don't want to buy dark jeans that are loose and find them to be even looser two weeks later!

2. Wash your jeans as little as possible. I know you might think that sounds gross, but it actually preserves your jeans! And when you do throw them in the laundry, make sure you use cold water as heat can damage the jeans. I turn my jeans inside out before washing so that it keeps them from wearing out quickly.

3. Once in a while, to clean dark jeans, fill up a bathtub with room temperature water and add 1/8 cup of vinegar to the water. Put the jeans in the tub, laying them flat and let them soak for 20 minutes. Let them air-dry and the dark color of your jeans will be set!

ToW #8: Be Sun Safe

Summer is upon us and weekends spent out enjoying the sun will definitely increase as July rolls around tomorrow. Everywhere it's heard that the sun is bad for you and you should layer up on sunscreen. But do we actually ever take all those statements in? Many people don't see the risk in taking in too much sun but it's actually drastic for your skin. Especially if you want to have beautiful skin when you're older.

So here are a few simple tips to keep your skin looking great:

Don't stress too much over the SPF numbers. SPF 100+ is not twice as strong as SPF 50. It's actually only a few percentages higher. So whether you have SPF 30 or SPF 70, reapply that sunscreen!

If you have sensitive skin, definitely try Supergoop! SPF 30 Sunscreen Swipes from Sephora. I received a sample from Sephora and tested the swipes out earlier this week. The swipes are non-oily and slides over your skin smoothly without leaving a white residue like other sunscreens do. Tip of the Week #4: Perfect Curled Lashes

Everyone wouldn't mind some curlier lashes. Here's  a simple trick to make your eyes look more awake in the mornings:

  • Heat up your eyelash curler by blowing your hair dryer on it for about 5 seconds
  • Begin by placing your eyelash curler at the base of lashes and hold for about 3 seconds
  • Move on to the middle of your lashes and hold for 3 seconds
  • Then end at the tip of your lashes and hold for 3 seconds

And voila! A simple way to make yourself look a little bit brighter in the mornings.

Tip of the Week #3: Body Mask

Looking for super smooth skin and want to achieve it naturally? Try avocados!

To moisturize your skin:

  • Remove the pit and skin from a ripe avocado and mash it up in a bowl
  • Slather it all over your body
  • Let it sit for 20 minutes
  • Then rinse

Although it may sound gross, avocado is actually a natural moisturizer so your body will feel incredibly good afterwards.

Tip of the Week #2: Detoxifying Facial

If you're looking to cleanse your skin as well as heal and detoxify it, the perfect facial mask for you is a Yogurt Cooling Mask!

Try it out:

  • Start with 3 teaspoons plain organic yogurt
  • Mix in three tablespoons of honey
  • Smooth onto clean skin (make sure you rinse and dry it before!)
  • Leave on for 15 minutes
  • Rinse with cool water
  • Finish by applying pure aloe juice with a cotton ball.
